Dec 2 Fundraiser / Celebration at Little Ethiopia

Last Wednesday evening, Dec 2, I hosted a fundraiser / celebration for my ride. I felt such an incredible surge of support and encouragement from friends and family, it will surely fuel me through the next few weeks of preparations!

My friend, Leslie, and I had previously discovered Little Ethiopia, a cozy Ethiopian restaurant near 9th and U St that looked to be the perfect venue for the gathering. Tutu and Yehune Belay, the owners of the restaurant, ensured the evening was a success by preparing delicious food and providing a comfortable Ethiopian atmosphere that felt more like someone’s home than a restaurant.

Friends from various parts of my life came out to support me: Hagerty, FEMA, Rosh Chodesh, swimming, biking, and childhood friends were in attendance. My folks timed their drive to Florida for the winter so that they could join in the fun. Greg and Denise Safko, representatives of the Joanna M. Nicolay Foundation, were there, as well, and spoke to the importance of melanoma research and education and the various projects undertaken by the Foundation that will benefit from the support of our efforts.

I am thankful for the demonstration of care and love and support of many friends and colleagues. I will certainly reflect on this night and be energized throughout my ride knowing that I have so many wonderful people supporting me. Thanks, all!
