Through my ride, I hope to shine the light on the dangers of melanoma and the importance of education, research, and prevention of the disease by supporting the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity.

The statistics are sobering:

  • 10,000 people in the U.S. died in 2007 from skin cancer.
  • Melanoma is the most common cancer among young adults ages 20- 30; and, the primary cause of cancer death for women ages 25-30;
  • Melanoma is the second most common cause of cancer death for women ages 30-35.

The Foundation focuses on the following three objectives:

  • Promote awareness and an understanding of the seriousness of melanoma.
  • Support funding for research to ultimately find a cure for melanoma.
  • Educate the general public on prevention and detection of melanoma.

The Foundation’s web site is an extensive resource to learn about risks of melanoma and the latest in prevention, detection, care, and research.  Click on the logo below to visit the Foundation’s website.
